IMG_20150222_173702723_HDR IMG_20150222_173704006_HDRI added a wooden brace to the interior of the gun so that it would not warp with the weight of the drill.

Beginning to fasten the drill onto the body.  I used sintra bracing, since it was what I had available and it was flexible enough to torque the drill into the right position.IMG_20150222_185802917_TOPIMG_20150222_193714457_HDRTesting the PVC and cardboard drill enclosure.

Fastened the Sintra cowl over the main body of the gun.

IMG_20150223_221308755_HDR I covered the wooden grip in Worbla to cover over the blemishes and to make it easy to paint.IMG_20150223_222313643 IMG_20150223_223830986IMG_20150223_223401874

I used a Shopbot CNC Machine to cut the barrel spacers, since I didn’t trust myself to make them evenly spaced. The pictures below show pink foam spacers, but I eventually switched to .75″ ply for rigidity and durability.

I aimed to make the barrels as light as possible so that it wouldnt strain the drill too much.

Check out my first Spin Test Below

I inserted a 1/4″ steel rod into a dowel and then into the body of the gun for structural toughness and so that I could carry it around without it breaking off.  I also added sintra reinforcements.

To the paint room!   I used Plastikote first, and then a rust colored base layer.

The look after Dry brushing.

IMG_20150305_013742676_HDRI added a Nerf Vulcan Ammo box (the night before PAX) to hold the battery.  I’ll post some more pictures soon.

My friend and I decided to make a prop for PAX.   We decided on making Thor’s hammer from a few yoga blocks a friend of mine had donated to me specifically for this purpose.  It was a very simple project, involving a little work on the wood lathe, some hot wire foam cutting, a little Wonderflex for the handle and a leather strap.

Borderlands Two Infinity Gun

DSC_0678

This gun was commissioned for a Siren cosplay at PAX East.  It is the Burning Infinity gun.  You can see the gun here:http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Infinity/Variant_Chart?file=Burning_Infinity.jpg Originally I used a small gearmotor, but the shaft was not strong enough and it destroyed the bearing.  I had to cut my first version in half and use a large robot gearmotor drive, with an extended shaft and support in order to make the barrels spin reliably. I will upload a video shortly.

Devil May Cry Guns : Ebony and Ivory- Pink foam and Wonderflex

DSC_0575

This is a commission I received for some cosplay props.   They are the guns named Ebony and Ivory from Devil May Cry

I was provided with the actual Mesh file of the guns, but I ended up just making a profile in Inkscape so that I could cut them out of pink foam.

The cutter chopped off a bit of the end of one of them, so I had to add a little on.

After a few hours of slicing and trimming with a hot wire cutter and a long bladed exacto…

At this point, I tried several different types of foam covering, all of which did not work to my liking.  Due to the number of restarts I had to do, I failed to continue taking pictures.

I eventually ended up deciding to use Wonderflex, which is a thermoforming plastic that self adheres when hot.

These are what the finished product looked like.  The commissioner wanted to paint them himself.  Had I been paid more, I would have added relief details with the wonderflex to create the flowery detailing on the guns.

I will be working more with wonderflex in some upcoming posts so stay tuned!

Upcoming projects include:

Pedal Car Restoration

Borderlands 2 Infinity Gun

Duct Tape Slave I

Nerf gun motor replacements
